The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Local Police, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), presented on Friday 11th the special arrangements that will be put in place during Holy Week to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
There will be 170 personnel employed to ensure the smooth running of the 'Semana Mayor', including 150 local police officers, as well as around twenty Civil Protection volunteers who will be deployed along the various routes and points of interest. "We have everything ready not only to welcome all those who visit us but also for all those who stay to enjoy our Holy Week", said Mata.
Hotel occupancy
In addition to this, the data provided by the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) place Mijas as a leading municipality in occupancy forecasts between the 16th and the 20th of April, when it would reach an occupancy rate of 87.47%, data that the mayoress valued very significantly and to which she finds justification in the promotional activities undertaken by the Tourism Department and, especially, the promotion of Holy Week that was carried out in the last edition of Fitur: "Mijas has a very special Holy Week, with unmistakable characteristics. When the actions undertaken are done with defined objectives, the results are achieved and we are seeing it with these forecasts for Holy Week", she said.

Public transport
The mayoress also wanted to encourage residents and visitors to use public transport during Holy Week, as a way of decongesting traffic, especially in Mijas Pueblo. To this end, a shuttle bus is available in Mijas Pueblo until Easter Sunday with an uninterrupted timetable from 11:00 hours to 01:00 hours, leaving from the El Puerto Quarry. In addition, the frequency of buses from Fuengirola will also be reinforced.

For his part, Cuevas Dawson took the opportunity to thank the work done by all areas and recalled that the Holy Week in Mijas "is one of our most beloved traditions and a real pride for the people of Mijas" and extended his thanks "to the brotherhoods for the enormous work they do and especially to the security forces that we will deploy, as the working hours of the police officers have been increased so that everything runs smoothly".
Cleanliness and Operational Services
These two municipal areas have been working intensively in the days leading up to Holy Week to tidy up the different routes along which the processions pass through in the three urban centres. Thus, the necessary actions have been carried out for the removal of all street furniture that impeded the passage of the floats, as well as a thorough review of street lighting, clearing and painting of streets.
With regard to cleaning during the days of Holy Week, there will be a team of cleaners for each procession in each of the urban centres. There will be an SDFK vehicle for emptying litter bins and collecting surplus litter from the container points. There will also be an employee applying the anti-wax product, accompanied by another with a pressure washer to clean the road with pressurised water once the product has been applied.

Beaches
On the other hand, the mayoress recalled that the entire coastline is already prepared for Passion Week. In fact, 3,000 cubic metres of sand have been poured on El Charcón beach to regenerate it and thus alleviate the effects of the recent storms.
With regard to the new kiosks, a new lifeguard and rescue kiok has been installed on La Luna beach, as well as two more toilet facilities on the Royal Beach and La Cala beaches. New access walkways have been installed in the four areas adapted for people with reduced mobility which comply with the regulations, i.e. they are 180 centimetres wide. There are also 120 containers for sorting waste along the entire coastline.

In terms of maintenance work, six kilometres of the coastal path have been cleared, in this case the sided, as well as at all the accesses to the different beaches. As far as the path is concerned, the deteriorated boards have also been replaced and painting work has been carried out, as well as on the accesses to the coast.
The lifeguard and rescue service will also be in operation during Holy Week, with 62 people covering all the beaches from 12:00 to 19:00 hours from the 12th to the 20th of April. Showers and footbaths will be in operation.
