The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), supervised on Thursday 10th the work being carried out at different points along the coast with the aim of getting the beaches ready for Holy Week, when the lifeguard service will also begin, starting on Saturday 12th.
As the mayoress explained, "we have been checking, renovating, improving and adapting the beaches, including the four accessible beach points in Mijas for people with reduced mobility, where the walkways have been widened to one metre 80 centimetres, as established by the regulations, so that everything is ready for Holy Week and everyone can enjoy the beach.
The beaches of El Bombo, El Torreón, Riviera and La Luna-Royal Beach already have adapted bathing areas. These points also include the new features introduced for the new season, among them, the change in the timer included in the showers to reduce water consumption. "I would like to take this opportunity to appeal to the awareness that each and every one of us must continue to maintain with regard to water, because even if it has rained during these months, even if we have had a rainy autumn and winter, it does not mean that next year we will have the amount of water we need, therefore, the buttons have been modified so that the showers supply water for 15 seconds”, said Mata.
A few weeks ago, sand contributions were made, some by the Beaches Department of the Mijas Town Hall, which, Mata pointed out, has worked throughout the year to reduce the effects of the storms. "We will continue to be very persistent in the sense that we will continue to ask Costas for these historic breakwaters so that the beaches do not suffer so much year after year".
During these days, in addition to the municipal workers and Basic Income, the machines are working to level the beach and prepare them for the installation of two new 'chiringuitos'. "Before there were two ‘chiringuitos’, El Bombo and Nacho Playa, and they are now going to be relocated, restored and adapted to comply with the regulations, so that these establishments can also maintain their livelihood", explained the mayoress, who also assured that measures such as this are agreed with the beach bar owners in meetings that are held periodically.
On the other hand, this week the lifeguard and rescue service, which has been operating, occasionally, throughout the year, will be reinforced. It will now be made up of 62 people who will be on duty daily, starting on Saturday, from eleven in the morning to seven in the evening.
In this way, the mayoress assured that this year the beaches of Mijas will once again have the blue flags and the Q for Quality.
