Mijas renovates the pavement of three streets in Las Lagunas to improve accessibility

  • The Operational Services take action on the Rio Ardachón, Corumbel and Guadalbarbo streets
  • La alcaldesa y el concejal de Servicios Operativos han conversado con los operarios municipales.

The aim of this work, valued at 150,000 euros, is also to homogenise the image throughout the municipality

The surface renovation works of these three streets in Doña Ermita are 80% complete: Río Ardachón, Río Corumbel and Río Guadalbarbo, as the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), pointed out last Wednesday 9th of April, during her visit to check first hand the progress of the works that Operational Services is carrying out in this area of Las Lagunas.

“These three streets cover a total of 750 metres, for which 150,000 euros have been allocated, and the work is part of a planning process that is carried out throughout the year. We evaluate which streets are most deteriorated in order to renovate them and adapt them not only to the regulations, but also to the style of the rest of the streets in the municipality”, explained Mata.

Going into detail, these works consist of renovating the pavement, kerbs and manholes and adapting the width of the pavement to the current regulations in order to improve accessibility. The works include the elimination of architectural barriers at pedestrian crossings and entrances in the area.

In addition, work has been carried out on an existing conduit to improve the water supply, all in collaboration with Acosol. “These are very narrow streets, which date back to times when town planning did not take into account people with reduced mobility and, in this sense, we are obliged to adapt these streets”, said Mata during the supervision of these works, where she was accompanied by the councillor responsible for Operational Services, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), and municipal technicians.

  • Las obras contemplan la renovación del acerado.

The government team also pointed out that the existing parking spaces in the three streets will be preserved in their entirety and apologised to the neighbours for the inconvenience caused. “We always try to carry out these works without harming the neighbours and taking their opinion into account so that there is no discomfort during the renovation of these streets”, said Mata.
