On Sunday 8th of December the nativity scene of the Inmaculada parish was inaugurated. The recreation is characterised by the large size of its figures, which occupy an entire side of the church. The nativity scene was opened to the public to coincide with the mass in honour of the Immaculate Conception, in which the Pastoral Las Lagunas performed.

It has taken almost three weeks for the group ‘Amigos del belén’ to set up the nativity scene in the parish church. From Monday to Thursday, from six in the afternoon until half past nine in the evening. But the result has been satisfactory. This was stated by one of the assemblers, Fernando Torres, who said that he was satisfied "because there is a lot of effort, especially the first few days with the assembly of the platform, the scaffolding, all that; then, little by little the decoration comes in; I am very satisfied with the work of all my colleagues".

The nativity scene is characterised by the large size of its figures and by what it represents. "There are around 70 large pieces plus all the small ones, and the most important thing is what they simulate, the village of Mijas with the parish church, the castle and so on", added Torres.

The socialist councillor Belén Roca has been another member of the group of assemblers of the nativity scene. "Each member has contributed small ideas and, little by little, we have been assembling this nativity scene full of details, because it has many details, it has little things of Mijas, there is even a figurine with a bracelet of the Virgen de la Peña; it has a lot of essence of Mijas", said Roca.

The parish priest of Mijas, Hermán Marcel Lunas, who blessed the nativity scene and all those present, young and old, highlighted the significance of this recreation: "they are figures that introduce us to the great mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God, which is what we celebrate at Christmas. It is what rejoices our soul and fills us with joy".

The nativity scene also has a charitable purpose. "I invite everyone to visit it and make a small donation because all the proceeds will go to Caritas", Torres explained.

This nativity scene is part of the Mijas nativity scene route that can be visited. This was recalled by the Councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), who stressed that "it is important not only for its size, but also for the devotion behind it. It is also part of this route of nativity scenes, which from Culture we are promoting as a tradition at Christmas time to give us identity and to defend our culture".
The Pastoral Las Lagunas was in charge of putting the melody to the mass and the inauguration of the nativity scene, which you can visit until the 12th of January, every day from 10 to 18 hours.
