Police reinforcement has reduced incidents, which has made these spaces "safer and more pleasant" environments, according to the Executive

The Mijas Town Hall, through the Department of Public Safety, has highlighted the "success of the intensification of police surveillance" in the playgrounds of the municipality, a measure implemented at the beginning of this year. This reinforcement, which responds to the demands of the neighbours, has managed to "significantly reduce incidents and promote a safer and more responsible use of these public spaces", according to the government team.

"Since the beginning of this initiative, we have managed to make the playgrounds of Mijas safer and more pleasant places for families", said the councillor for the area, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox). "The continued presence of Local Police officers has not only allowed us to correct inappropriate behaviour, such as the consumption of alcohol and substances, but also to prevent situations that generated insecurity, such as altercations and behaviour that affected the users of these areas", he reiterated.

The measure includes the assignment of specific Local Police units to regularly patrol the municipality's parks. These patrols are recorded in detail, noting the time, length and any incidents detected. "This allows us to have rigorous control and ensure that each playground is monitored on a regular basis", explained the councillor.

Improving coexistence

Since its implementation, the Executive stresses, there has been a "substantial improvement in coexistence and respect for municipal regulations that prohibit, among other things, smoking and alcohol consumption in children's areas". In addition, the initiative also seeks to promote the proximity of the local police to citizens. "Our officers are not only there to intervene, but also to inform, educate and support families who come to the playgrounds", said Cuevas Dawson.

Among these public spaces, "we have prioritised the areas with the greatest attendance and where the most incidents have been reported, ensuring that families can enjoy these places with complete peace of mind", added the councillor.

The positive assesment of this initiative "reinforces the commitment of the Mijas Town Hall to the safety and wellbeing of its residents", the Town Hall says. "We will continue to work to ensure that our playgrounds are safe spaces, where coexistence is exemplary and families can enjoy their leisure time without worries", concluded Cuevas Dawson.
