The Mijas Navidad Gourmet programme, which includes, on the one hand, a gourmet route and, on the other, gastronomic micro-events, has prepared an exquisite month of December with the most festive flavours. On Thursday 5th, the local chef Esteban Sedeño starred alongside his counterparts Daciel Guerrero and Juan Muñoz in the inauguration of the showcooking cycle with a very sweet workshop. 

"We have made special things, we have made chocolates with our own touch. Mijas has a hallmark that is very important, the donkey, so we are going to make a donkey in a shortbread", explained Sedeño, who also said that “apart from that we are going to make a Christmas tree, we are going to make the balls with a mouse and nuts”.  "Within the municipal programme GastronoMijas, the first activity is Navidad Gourmet, because it is Christmas now, and because it is also a way to encourage trade and also encourage all commercial activity in the municipality", said the councillor for Economic Development, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), who was present during the workshop.

This sweet masterclass was held in the Plaza de la Constitución, where until the 31st of December you can enjoy the Christmas Market with its stalls and good atmosphere. It is open every day from 11:00 to 19:00 hours. 

Seal of quality 

The establishments that obtain the quality seal of the Navidad Gourmet brand will be part of a digitalised gastronomic route where they can showcase their best Christmas proposals and their most select products for this special time of year. In addition, the public will be able to take part in micro gastronomic events throughout the municipality. The project, according to the councillor for Economic Development, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), "was created to promote the municipality as a tourist and gastronomic destination. A project that starts at Christmas time with a gourmet route, but which intends to continue".

"We are seeing how both restaurants and food-related businesses are getting involved, we will continue along these lines, we will continue with more micro-events of this type, we have four more to go, and with the Christmas route", added Maldonado.

Mijas Navidad Gourmet 

The Mijas Navidad Gourmet initiative has three main bases. On the one hand, it will carry out a quality audit of gourmet establishments, both restaurants and shops related to gastronomy, participating in the initiative. The aim is to promote the excellence of this industry in the municipality. The label will have an accrediting graphic seal that the establishments will be able to place at the entrance to their establishments as a symbol of quality. On the other hand, the gourmet shops must have, for their part, unique products related to Christmas and, finally, a programme of tastings, samplings, showcooking and gourmet workshops for all audiences.
