The international choir TAPAS gave their traditional Christmas Concert on the afternoon of Tuesday 3rd at the La Cala Branch Office. The show offered a wide repertoire of Christmas carols in English which attracted a mostly foreign audience. The Mijas Town Hall collaborates in the organisation of this event, which has been repeated every Christmas for more than 20 years.
Although its name sounds very Spanish, TAPAS, this choir is mostly made up of foreign residents, and its acronym means Performing Arts Society of Andalusia. "There are more than 30 members, English, Dutch, American and Spanish; the choir is growing all the time, and that is a joy for me", said the director, James Burn, who has been conducting the choir for five years, although the group has been singing for more than two decades. “Every year it gets better and better, and I am really happy to work with them”, Burn added.
The Foreigners Department, once again this year, was responsible for setting this event in its programme of activities for Christmas, free and open to all citizens. “The aim is to make it easier for foreigners to enjoy this show and to get to know the facilities of the branch office, which are here to provide the best possible service to everyone”, said the councillor responsible for the area, Mario Bravo (PP).
Christmas Programme
The Mijas Foreigners Department invites us to celebrate Christmas with them. As every year they have designed an extensive programme of activities which includes, apart from this traditional concert by the TAPAS choir and the Christmas Market organised together with the Lions Club, the Christmas dance show by FAMA on the 9th; and on the 15th PAD's Fair. Also, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, between the 4th and 28th of December, from 11 to 14 hours, in front of the La Cala Branch Office, there will be a charity market with the participation of different associations and NGOs to raise funds for their causes.
