The extensive calendar of Christmas activities organised by the Mijas Town Hall continues. Here is one more proposal, the New Year's Concert. As explained by the councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), the Malaga Symphony Orchestra will give the recital on December 27th at the Manuel España Theatre. "The cultural activity that we offer from the Mijas Town Hall increases at this time of the year. Now, we present this New Year's concert by the Symphony Orchestra, one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country. I invite everyone to attend because it will be unforgettable", explained Maldonado during the presentation. This is the first time that a concert of this kind has been held in the municipality.
The concert programme will consist of ‘La boda de Luis Alonso’ by G. Giménez; ‘El Danubio Azul’, ‘Perpetuum Mobile’, ‘Trisch trasch polka’ and ‘Polka de caza’, all pieces by J. Strauss, which are joined by ‘La leyenda del beso’ by Soutullo and Vert, ‘La revoltosa. Prelusio' by Chapí, 'Can can can' by Offenbach and, as a grand finale, 'Vals de las flores' by Tchaikovsky. The orchestra will be conducted by Rubén Díez. The concert will begin at 20:00 hours and admission is free until full capacity is reached.
About the Symphony Orchestra
Founded in 1945 by Pedro Gutiérrez Lapuente, it is one of the oldest orchestras in Spain. Its main objectives are the dissemination of music and support for the training of new artistic talents. Coinciding with its 50th anniversary, the Provincial Council of Malaga decided to support the Symphony Orchestra of Malaga in a committed and enthusiastic manner, since then performing more than 600 concerts throughout the province under its sponsorship.
The Symphony Orchestra of Malaga has given countless concerts throughout its history, with the participation of renowned soloists such as Gaspar Cassadó, Henryk Szeryng, José Cubiles, Alfredo Kraus, Montserrat Caballé, Ainhoa Arteta, Anna Netrebko, Yusif Eyvazov and Andrea Bocelli; and conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Michael Thomas, Miquel Ortega, Francisco de Gálvez, José Luis Temes, Marco de Prosperis, Miguel Romea, Carlo Bernini, Marco Boemi and Eugene Kohn.
