On Saturday 17th, Granada welcomed the first shift of the senior citizens trip organised by the Mijas Town Hall. This is the first of the three shifts in the second part of the senior citizens trip, in which about 1,000 people will take part, after 600 visited Melilla in October.

Among those who have travelled to Granada is María Victoria Caparrós, a neighbour from Mijas, for whom this trip is very special, as it is the first trip she has made at 70 years of age "I'm very excited, I haven't had the opportunity to travel before, I've spent my whole life working as a seamstress, and then, for one reason or another, I didn't travel", she said before getting on the bus. She has gone on this trip with her friend, Mari Carmen Godínez, who is taking part for the second time in one of the trips organised by the town hall, "after enjoying the first one, I wanted to repeat the experience with my friend".

For other neighbours, such as the couple made up of Paco and Carmen, this is the third trip they have made through the Senior Citizens Department and, as Carmen said, "we have come to Granada full of joy and looking forward to enjoying the activities".

For her part, the councillor of the government team, Melisa Ceballos, stressed that "the most important thing is that everything is organised and that the elderly have a good time, enjoy the trip and the planned activities". Together with Ceballos, Mari Francis Alarcón, also a member of the government team, is accompanying the travellers. 

The six buses, after stopping for breakfast, arrived, after one o'clock in the afternoon, at the doors of the four star hotel Gran Hotel Luna. After leaving their luggage in their rooms, the group went down to have lunch in turns. Later, during the afternoon, the organisation offered them a welcome drink and informed them about the programme of activities and visits that they could enjoy during these days. The first day ended with dinner, music and dancing in the hotel.

Throughout Monday, the first group, divided into groups, visited the city centre of Granada on foot. The travellers strolled through the streets until they reached the Plaza Nueva, from where they saw the cathedral and the royal chapel. Their walk continued to the Alcaicería and the Corral del Carbón. The historical and cultural tour also took them to the Monastery of San Jerónimo, where they enjoyed a guided tour by Carlos Laraño, "it is a monastery that is not very popular, as it is far from the historic centre. However, it is a building of great beauty and of absolute importance due the arrival of the Hieronymite order in Granada. It is an early Renaissance element but it is also a concept related to the Immaculate Conception", he explained. 

The visitors had a great time with the explanations and the stories of the city.
