The councillor for Social Services at Mijas Town Hall, Hipólito Zapico (PSOE), announced this Monday that Mijas will become "one of the pioneering Andalusian municipalities" in implementing the Regulations for the Declaration of Risk to Minors. "We have been working on the drafting of this document, which is very important because it increases the protection of minors and establishes a series of criteria and procedures with which all the mechanisms of the Town Hall, the Delegation of Education, Health and Social Services will be put in place to protect minors in the event of a situation of risk," explained the councillor.

The regulation stems from the Law on Youth and Children, approved in July. For the creation of this document a monitoring commission is established in which different agents participate: the head and the director of Social Services, a representative of the Health District and another of the Delegation of Education. "This commission will determine what circumstances are present in the case of a child at possible risk and will establish a formal declaration of risk if it exists and initiate the necessary procedures to safeguard the child from the circumstances that have put him or her at risk," Zapico said.

 

Social Services has already drawn up a draft of these regulations, which will now go on public exhibition for 10 days to receive suggestions, allegations or contributions. Its final approval will be a lengthy process. Meanwhile, Zapico points out, the department continues with the implementation of the different programmes for the protection of minors.
