Educational campaign to promote responsible pet care has been launched

  • The Departments for Health and Education will show a video concerning this matter at school centres in Mijas
  • This campaign will be taken to all school centres in the municipality for children to become aware of the responsibilities that come with having a pet at home

The campaign includes an informative video which has been produced with the participation of vets from the municipality

The Health Department, in collaboration with the Education department, has launched an educational campaign to promote the proper care of pets, which is to be carried out at school centres in the municipality to help students become aware of the responsibilities implied in having an animal at home. “We want children to know the obligations that come with having a pet, its daily routines, the proper care it needs… The idea is for children to be acquainted with this information so that they can help their families in this matter, as children are sometimes the best channel to spread these types of campaigns”, explained Mari Carmen González (Cs), Councillor for the Health Department.
The campaign includes an informative video which has been produced with the participation of vets from the municipality. This audio-visual production was shown at Los Claveles nursery school today, and according to the Councillor for Education, Mariló Olmedo (Cs), it will also be shown at all the other school centres in the municipality in the next few weeks. The Councillor highlighted that “school centres always collaborate with all the initiatives we organise at the Town Hall, as they always get involved in any activity that promotes values among children, such as equality, good reading habits, caring for the environment and, now, responsible pet care”.
Ending the presentation of the campaign, the Councillor for Health added that each school centre will adapt the content of the video to each classroom and at the end of the school year information will be shared to take stock of this campaign, analysing the effect it has had on students. “We have not decided yet, but we will probably organise some type of contest for children to share their drawings, videos or short stories, depending on their age. Our main aim is, for this information, to make a deep impression and the best way to achieve this is through children”, said González.
