Nearly twenty municipal workers received a token of appreciation from the mayoress, Ana Mata, as a thank you for their service

The Mijas Town Hall paid tribute on Saturday 6th to the municipal workers who have retired over the past year. It was an emotional event held at the Town Hall itself, presided over by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), and the councillor for Human Resources, Silvia Marín (PP). Nearly twenty local employees gathered to be recognised for their long careers and dedication to the town. The mayoress stated that this was a very special moment “filled with emotions, memories and, above all, gratitude”.

Mata explained that “reaching this day is not simply a matter of completing a certain number of years of service. It is the culmination of a career full of responsibility, sacrifice and a true vocation for public service. For decades, your daily work has contributed to the running of our local authority and the well-being of our residents”, noting that the retirees come from various municipal departments, ranging from maintenance staff and police officers to technicians, instructors and administrative assistants.

The honoured employees were Antonia Ruiz, María Dolores Alemany, Antonio Jesús Ordóñez, Rosario Rodríguez, Milagros Román, Beatriz Mozún, María Dolores Serrano, María del Carmen Arroyo, Francisco Aguilera, José Burgos, Ramón Cádiz, Francisca Medinilla, Pilar Carmona, María Antonia Lozano, Francisco Díaz, José Manuel Solís, Antonio Pino and Fuensanta Clemente.

Pilar Carmona, after 27 years at the Town Hall, said she has “very fond memories of all the departments I’ve worked in. I’m incredibly grateful to the council. The truth is that my working life has been a major milestone for me, and I’ve been very happy and fulfilled in every department. I also take wonderful memories of my colleagues, whom I carry in my heart”. For her part, María Antonia Lozano felt “wonderful and very grateful, because I’ve been here for many years. I’ve worked at the Town Hall for 36 years, and it felt like home. It’s true that we are like a second family because I spent half my time at work". Francisco Díaz emphasised that “you spend a large part of your life at work with your colleagues, your supervisors, your bosses and the political leadership, and honestly, it’s been brilliant. In 35 years, I have no complaints whatsoever. Everything has been wonderful, and serving the public is truly the best thing that can happen to you in life”.

A new chapter

The mayoress wished to acknowledge not only their professional achievements but also the “excellent human qualities” of all the staff. “Retirement should not be seen as an end, but as the beginning of a new chapter full of opportunities. It is time to enjoy family, friends, personal projects that may have been put on hold, dream holidays and those little pleasures for which there was previously no time”, said the mayoress.

To conclude the ceremony, each attendee was presented with a commemorative plaque created by local artist José Ángulo, a symbol, as Mata explained, of the “immense affection the town has for them”.
