If last year the first edition of Saboreart took place at the CAC Mijas with recipes inspired by the works of Dalí, “this year we have a different recipe. Saboreart, as its name suggests, is about combining flavour and art, and in this second edition we have lyrical music and a menu inspired by María Callas’s favourite ingredients”, explained the president of the Mijas Lions Club, Guy Rondou.

Around 45 people attended the dinner, which was held on Friday 30th on the terrace of the Patio Antiguo restaurant in Mijas Pueblo. The diners not only enjoyed the evening but also contributed their bit by providing financial support to help this NGO continue its work for those most in need. "The money goes directly here, to Mijas, to those in need: families, AFA. Last week, we helped a homeless person sleeping on the street get out of that very difficult situation”, emphasised Rondou. "We lend a hand to the people of Mijas, of course, to anyone who needs it, and not just in the town. When the DANA hit, we personally loaded cars with donations and took them to the affected areas. Wherever a helping hand is needed, you can be sure a Lion will be there”, added Javier Fructuoso, a member of the Mijas Lions Club’s board of directors.

 

Among those in attendance was Fernando Juanes, president of the governors, who recalled some of the campaigns run by the NGO, which has 1.4 million members worldwide. "We have campaigns to combat diabetes and blindness, we have a glasses recycling centre where we process and repair glasses and send them to the developing world", explained Juanes, who added that "there are also campaigns against hunger and, just like with the DANA here in Spain, there was an earthquake in Morocco, so we also helped them, as well as people from Ukraine who have fled the war and come here".

In this delightful mix of flavours and art, music was a must. The evening was enlivened by the Dúo Fusión.
