In May, Mijas recorded a year-on-year decrease in unemployment of 454 people compared to the same month last year, a figure that represents a 7.67% drop in unemployment, according to data from the Argos Observatory of the Junta de Andalucía, which states that the municipality closed May with 5,464 unemployed people, whereas in the same month last year the figure stood at 5,918.
The Mijas Town Hall’s governing team highlights that this is the lowest unemployment figure in the last ten years (in May 2015, the number of unemployed people reached 7,704).
For the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), these results endorse the municipality’s strategic position as a generator of job opportunities and "although we must always look for improvement, these figures encourage us to continue promoting policies to boost employment and increase the well-being of our residents".
