Today we tell you the story of two UK citizens, Steve Milburn and Bill Irvine, who this May undertook a motorcycle trip from the town of Barrow-in-Furness (northern England) to Mijas, all for a good cause, in support of the Cudeca Foundation.
Steve has been visiting Mijas for 16 years and is also a member of the Wyndham Resort, which is why he decided to organise this trip on his Honda from his hometown to our municipality, covering a total of 3,800 kilometres. "These two friends crossed the whole of the British Isles and then took the ferry to Santander, where they continued their journey through Spain, passing through Valencia, until they reached our resort, where we could say that the idea came about because they stayed with us just a few weeks ago", explained the president of the Idiliq Foundation at the Wyndham Resort, Juan Miguel Marcos, on Monday 12th of May.
On the afternoon of Sunday 11th, they set foot on Mijas soil and on Monday they handed over part of the money they have raised over the last few days thanks to this initiative, around 4,500 euros, which will go to two groups: the MS Group association in the United Kingdom, dedicated to the fight against multiple sclerosis (because Steve's wife suffers from this disease) and, here in Spain, the Cudeca Foundation, which offers palliative care to patients with advanced diseases throughout the Costa del Sol. "Unfortunately, every year the number of patients who need us increases, and that entails an expense that we have to cover from the Foundation, which is why this type of donation, of 2,000 euros in this case, help us to continue investing in our users and their care, so that they can have a better quality of life despite their illness", said Cudeca's Events Technician, María Romera, who collected the cheque on behalf of the Foundation today.
Cudeca Walkathon 2025
The group is also preparing for the 2025 edition of the Walkathon for Cudeca, which will take place on the 24th of May in Benalmádena. There will be two routes, one 5 kilometres long and the other 10 kilometres long, and this year, for the first time, there will be a Holi colour festival. "It is one of our most important events and where we manage to bring together the most people, also raising a good amount of money to continue providing our services throughout the year", said Romera, while Marcos added that "we have also placed collection boxes for this Foundation in our resorts and, as we have done every year, we will participate in this charity walk that we enjoy so much".
