The Mijas coastline adds new parking spaces for people with reduced mobility

  • With the three new bays in El Chaparral and Las Doradas, the beaches now have 25 such spaces right on the seafront

The aim is to make the beaches accessible to everyone who wants to enjoy them 365 days a year

These improvements have been in high demand from beachgoers, given that our coastline is enjoyed all year round. This was stated by the councillor for Operational Services and Beaches at Mijas Toen Hall, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), during a visit to the sites where the work is being carried out.

“We are carrying out work to improve mobility, also creating the necessary parking spaces for people with reduced mobility. We are the coastal area with the highest number of parking bays for disabled drivers, with 25 spaces along our nearly 14 kilometres of coastline", he said.

Mijas Town Hall is thus continuing its work to improve accessibility along the coastline with the creation of three new parking spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility. Specifically, one new bay has been created at Las Doradas beach and two others at El Chaparral.

  • A finales de semana está previsto que concluyan los trabajos.

Accessible beaches

This measure reflects the Town Hall's commitment to keep moving towards a more accessible municipality, removing barriers and offering public spaces that can be enjoyed on equal terms by all residents and visitors alike.

“At these two spots along the coastal path, in order to continue securing Blue Flag and Q for Quality certifications, we needed to create these much-needed parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, as many visitors also come to these beaches, thereby improving access”, added the councillor, who specified that Operational Services staff, working in collaboration with the Beaches Department, are responsible for carrying out the work.

  • Los aparcamientos se ubican en los nuevos tramos de senda litoral.

“Everything has been carried out using our own resources and will be completed by the end of the week, including the corresponding upright road signage to ensure everything is in perfect condition”, added Gómez Teruel. The availability of reserved parking spaces close to bathing areas is essential to guarantee independence for people with reduced mobility, making it easier for them to enjoy the Mijas coastline with greater comfort and safety.

Furthermore, on top of the 25 parking spaces for people with reduced mobility on the seafront, "we must add roughly another twenty bays on the second line back from the beach, making a total of 45 spaces for people with reduced mobility", the councillor explained.

  • En este punto de la playa de El Chaparral se habilitarán dos plazas de aparcamiento.

Improvements

The Town Hall will continue working to improve beach infrastructure and services, with the aim of consolidating an inclusive, accessible coastline tailored to everyone’s needs.

It is worth noting that the municipality also has four beaches offering adapted bathing services and assistance for people with reduced mobility or functional diversity, specifically in La Cala, El Bombo, Royal Beach-La Luna and El Chaparral. The three new parking spaces complement the newly created sections of the Coastal Path, that already run through these areas.
