Until 19th November, local Mijas groups can submit their social inclusion and welfare projects

On 29th October, Mijas Town Hall opened the application period for grants aimed at social organisations in the municipality for the 2026 financial year. The scheme has an allocated budget of 850,000 euros and will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for funding can be submitted up to and including 19th November via the municipal electronic portal.

Grants

Specifically, the 850,000 euros allocated for this call are divided into four different funding streams. Line 1 allocates 180,000 euros to grants for projects fostering the social or labour-market inclusion of vulnerable groups or those at risk of social exclusion. Line 2 provides 360,000 euros to cover the operational overheads and ongoing running costs of local social organisations. Meanwhile, Line 3 sets aside 230,000 euros to fund projects aimed at improving living conditions for groups made particularly vulnerable by medical conditions, illnesses, addictions, or physical or mental disabilities and impairments. Finally, Line 4 is dedicated to child and youth protection and prevention initiatives, covering areas such as tackling early school leaving, supporting and protecting minors at risk, and providing activities for marginalised youth.

Projects

The evaluation criteria for awarding grants will generally take into account the quality, clarity, consistency and technical feasibility of the proposal; the track record, experience, and specialist expertise of the organisations in relation to each grant's objectives; the project's social impact; and the projected number of direct and indirect beneficiaries.

Each organisation may submit a maximum of one application (and receive one grant) per funding stream. As an exception, an additional project may be submitted under Line 1, provided its specific focus is prevention, support, and social intervention for homeless people.

Grants awarded under this call are compatible with any other aid, income, or funding received for the same purpose from any public authority or private body, whether national, European, or international.

Requirements

To be eligible for funding, associations, foundations, and non-profit organisations must satisfy all municipal criteria by the application deadline. Applicants must be officially registered in Mijas Town Hall’s Municipal Register of Associations and Organisations, hold official recognition of Municipal Public Benefit (Utilidad Pública Municipal), and operate actively within the municipality of Mijas. In addition, organisations must be fully up to date with their tax and contribution liabilities with both the Spanish Tax Agency (Agencia Tributaria) and Social Security, as well as with Mijas Town Hall itself, and must not be subject to any of the statutory exclusions outlined in the General Law on Grants. It is also an essential prerequisite that the subsidised project or activity directly impacts the municipality of Mijas or benefits local residents. Only costs actually incurred during the specified period will be eligible for funding, although payment may be settled within the justification period established for this call. Finally, all grants awarded are governed by the General Law on Grants and the General Grant Ordinance of Mijas Town Hall, granted final approval on 29th October 2025.
