The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), carried out a site visit on Thursday 22nd to the extension works at Las Lagunas Sports Complex. This is a large-scale project which is now set to be completed after a seven-year process. The budget for the project stands at 4.8 million euros.
Last March, the public tender for the completion of this facility, located adjacent to the existing sports centre, was awarded to the company Servimar 2008, with an execution period of ten months. Once the preliminary work was carried out, construction began in May. This marked a step forward in completing a project that has faced numerous problems since it began seven years ago and has even been halted on several occasions. “The project has a stipulated completion deadline, which we hope can be met so that we can have these facilities ready in the first quarter of the year, in time for their opening and for everyone to be able to make use of them”, said the mayoress.

During her visit, the mayoress was accompanied by the councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), and the councillor for Sport, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), as well as municipal technicians and project managers. The delegation inspected all ongoing work to assess progress. At present, as the mayoress explained, efforts are focused on installing the electrical system, plumbing and internal partitioning. Testing is also underway to finish the building’s façades. “Right now they are working on the entire interior, and next week they will likely continue with the climate control work, so, in principle, these are tasks that would not be affected if it were to rain over the coming weeks”, noted the councillor for Sport.

Technical visit
“Today’s visit is enabling both the councillors in charge and the technical staff to take note of any issues that can be modified or improved, which will make the facilities much more functional”, said the mayoress of Mijas, while the councillor for Sport highlighted the importance of having these new spaces, “particularly as they will allow judo, karate, Pilates and classes for older adults to take place more comfortably, given that they currently have limited space inside the sports hall”.
