Depending on the scale, beneficiaries may receive up to 3,240 euros to ease the financial burden on families

Mijas Town Hall, through its Social Inclusion Department, announced on Friday 16th a call for applications for functional diversity grants, a scheme with a budget of 600,000 euros, for which applications can be submitted from Monday, 19th October, for a period of ten working days. This is the largest amount allocated during the current term of office and will benefit more Mijas residents, as the income thresholds required to qualify have been raised.

The main aim of these grants is to help alleviate the financial burden on families who have members with disabilities. This helps to improve the quality of life for both the beneficiaries and their carers, provided they meet the conditions set out in the regulatory framework published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP).

Specifically, as reported by the councillor responsible, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), this grant scheme is governed by the new general grant ordinance, operating on a competitive basis. This has made it possible to increase the funding from the 525,000 euros allocated in previous years to the current 600,000 euros. This means, explained the councillor, that more residents of Mijas will be able to access these grants than in previous years.

  • El objetivo de estas ayudas es paliar el esfuerzo económico de las familias con miembros que tienen alguna discapacidad.

Requirements

To be eligible for the grants covered by this call for applications, individuals (both adults and minors) must meet a number of requirements, including having a recognised and valid degree of disability of 45 per cent or more (for adults) or 33 per cent for those under eighteen years of age; and being registered on the municipal census (padrón) and actually residing in Mijas for at least the five-year period immediately preceding the application.

Income

Furthermore, the combined income of all household members cannot exceed the following limits: 250 per cent of the annual Public Multiple-Effect Income Indicator (IPREM) for single-person households; 300 per cent for two members; 420 per cent for three members; and 470 per cent of the IPREM for four-member households. It is important to highlight that when the beneficiary is a minor, the income limits will be increased by 200 per cent of the annual IPREM.

For each additional member beyond the fifth, the income limit will increase by 30 per cent of the annual IPREM.

Based on the points scoring system for each valid application, grants will be 1,800 euros (up to 35 points); 2,520 euros (between 36 and 50 points); and 3,240 euros for scores over 50 points.
