From Monday 12th to Thursday 15th, the first group of the 2026 Senior Citizens’ Trip, concluded with four outstanding days of fellowship

The first group of the 2026 Senior Citizens’ Trip has now concluded its tour of the province of Cádiz, with a gala dinner to mark the end of the trip attended by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), as well as the councillor for Senior Citizens, Silvia Marín (PP), and councillor Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), who joined the residents. Mata took stock on the final day: “They are pleased and happy to have been able to spend a few magnificent days in a setting which, as I tell them, they truly deserve. It is a hotel right by the beach, with a programme of activities designed to ensure they enjoy their stay. Many people are here for the first time and are very grateful, but we must also thank them because they have contributed throughout their lives and now deserve this effort”, remarked the mayoress.

The participants’ reactions were a testament to the trip’s success. “We’ve seen the Rocío Jurado museum and we’ve also visited the Church of the Virgen de Regla”, said one of the local residents. Another traveller added: “We’ve come to have a good time and make friends, and we’ve managed to do just that”. One of the excursionists summed up the sense of wonder at Jerez’s wealth of monuments by noting, with a touch of irony, that “we’ve seen so many things that we’re forgetting them, but it’s all very beautiful”.

Beyond the sightseeing, which was rounded off in the final stage with talks on technology and health, the trip has once again served to strengthen bonds. The setting fostered reunions, such as that involving the Ibáñez siblings. Matilde, the eldest of them, explained what made this year’s trip special: “My sister Obdulia and I have both been coming ever since we retired, and this year we’ve been joined by our other two siblings”.

Silvia Marín highlighted the absence of any incidents, and stated that “for the first group, which is usually where potential issues are identified, it has been a very smooth trip; everything has gone smoothly and, above all, the seniors have had a great time. We’re giving this first group top marks”, she declared.

For his part, Gómez Teruel echoed this view, highlighting the shared value of the event: “It’s a wonderful experience to be with the seniors, because they teach you so much. For me, it’s a gift to be with them, each with their own life stories, and also because they all come keen to enjoy themselves, and that’s what we need to learn”.

Following the final dinner featuring local Cádiz specialities, the raffle for suitcases and the birthday celebrations for Juani and María del Pilar, the first group packed up their memories and confirmed the trip’s success.
