It is one of the most eagerly awaited gastronomic events of the year, and this time features the participation of 20 Mijas restaurateurs and cheesemakers from the province of Málaga. This is the 8th edition of the Cheese and Wine Festival, which will take place from 23th to 25th October in the central Plaza Virgen de la Peña in Mijas Pueblo.
The councillor for Public Thoroughfares, Melisa Ceballos (PP); the president of the Mijas Association of Traders and Business Owners (ACIM), Alejandro Jaime; and a large group of local traders presented the event on Wednesday 7th. The councillor wished to highlight the commitment of Mijas’ hospitality sector to promoting the town’s rich gastronomic offering, particularly as the festival attracts hundreds of residents and tourists every year. “From here, we would like to invite everyone in Mijas to come and enjoy this weekend with family and friends”, said the councillor.

Local establishments
Specifically, the catering establishments taking part this year are Bodega del Pintor, Coffee Art, Radikal, Corte de Autor, Confusión, Alboka, Las Terrazas, Las Tablitas, Confitería Maru, La Muralla, Plaza de Toros, El Cañuelo and Salvador Alarcón.
There will also be a strong representation of cheese makers from Málaga, “master cheesemakers” as Jaime described them. Furthermore, “for local businesses, this is a really good opportunity, not just for those of us setting up this fair, but also for all the surrounding businesses, as it is an event that attracts people from different cities”, added Jaime.
The event will be rounded off with musical performances taking place in Plaza Virgen de la Peña itself, a format that has been used in previous years and has proven successful as it combines culture and entertainment with gastronomic appeal.
As for the opening hours, on Friday the event will run from 12:00 to 01:00, on Saturday from 11:00 to 02:00 and on Sunday from 11:00 to 00:00. To facilitate public access, a shuttle bus service is planned from La Cantera to the centre of Mijas Pueblo.
