Mijas has closed the two central months of summer among the three destinations with the highest hotel occupancy in the province of Málaga. The municipality recorded 92.26 per cent in July, the second-best provincial result, and 94.4 per cent in August, when it was placed in third position, data that reflect “the high level of tourist activity achieved during the high season”, assured the councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox). The assesment also allows the evolution between both months to be verified. Occupancy increased by more than two points between July and August, and the final month of summer also improved on the figure achieved a year earlier, when Mijas closed August 2025 with 93.57 per cent. The 94.4 per cent recorded this year is also 1.55 points above the provincial average for August, set at 92.85 per cent.
“Being among the three municipalities with the highest occupancy in the entire province during July and August is a very positive result and demonstrates Mijas’s capacity to compete with some of the main tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol”, highlighted Jerez, who added that “behind these figures there is activity in our establishments, consumption and employment, which is where we really want the good performance of tourism to be noticed”.
The August data place Mijas only behind Benalmádena, with 96.2 per cent, and Torremolinos, with 95.5 per cent. Furthermore, the municipality has climbed two places compared to the same month in 2025, when it held fifth position in the province, and has improved its year-on-year occupancy level by 0.83 points.

Autumn
The councillor for Tourism stressed that once the months of highest demand are over, “the work of the Tourism Department is now focused on extending activity during the autumn”. “July and August work very well, but Mijas has plenty of arguments to attract visitors outside the high season. Our goal is for tourism to continue generating activity over the coming months and for us to have an increasingly broader season”, explained Jerez.
In this regard, the councillor highlighted the diversity of the town’s tourist offering as one of its main advantages for the coming months. “In autumn, we still have our gastronomy, golf, nature, Mijas Pueblo, the coast, the shops and a range of leisure activities that allow visitors to enjoy the town in a different way to the height of summer”, said Jerez, who added that “the Tourism Department will continue to work on promoting these segments and positioning Mijas as an attractive destination all year round.
“The summer results are good news, but we do not want to stay only with the figures for July and August. Now we put the focus on autumn and on continuing to generate reasons to choose Mijas also outside the high season”, concluded the councillor.
