On Monday 21st, Sandra García Torres was introduced as the new honorary consul of Norway for the provinces of Málaga, Granada and Cádiz. The event took place in the gardens of the Picasso Museum in Málaga and was attended by officials from across the province, including the president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado; the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre; the Norwegian ambassador, Lars Andersen; and, representing Mijas Town Hall, the councillor for Foreigners, Mario Bravo (PP). Members of the Norwegian Church in Calahonda also attended the event.

Among García’s first official engagements was the event held on Tuesday 22nd at the El Chaparral Golf Club in Mijas, which hosted the 3rd Costa del Sol Networking Event, organised by Mijas’ Foreigners Department and local networking groups. As she explained, her profession is closely linked to the role she will now play as consul, “because my work mainly consists of supporting international companies and collaborating with other countries, so from now on I will focus all my efforts on those Norwegian companies wishing to come to Málaga to set up a new business or invest in the province”, she emphasised.

 

The Norwegian tourism market is one of the most significant on the Costa del Sol; in fact, nearly 250,000 Norwegians choose this destination every year, according to Málaga Provincial Council. Furthermore, around 2,500 have already taken up residence in the province of Málaga, of whom 444 live in Mijas, noted the councillor for Foreigners. “Just today, while speaking with the Norwegian ambassador, I told him that the Costa del Sol is like Florida for Norwegians, because they see that life here is good, that the climate is quite pleasant and that, moreover, there are business opportunities, so our province is a wonderful place for everything”, the consul concluded.
