The boulevard in La Cala de Mijas will host the regional ‘Sabor a Málaga’ fair from 25th to 27th September. On this occasion, it will feature 36 producers, wineries and cooperatives from 20 municipalities in Málaga, including Mijas, and visitors will be able to sample and purchase 350 products bearing the Málaga seal of quality.
Sabor a Málaga
On Friday, following the opening ceremony, there will be a gourmet sandwiches activity at 13:00 and an event dedicated to aperitif wines, citrus fruits from Málaga and other products from the province, scheduled for 14:00. In the afternoon, there will be musical performances and dancing by the UP.
Saturday
The fair will be open from 11:00 to 21:00 on Saturday and will once again combine culinary offerings with cultural and musical activities.
At 12:00 there will be a cooking demonstration led by Juanjo Carmona, chef at Flour, Aviva and Salitre restaurants. At 13:00, it will be the turn of Málaga’s cocktail scene, with a workshop dedicated to the Málaga mojito led by Mesura. An hour later, goat’s cheeses from Málaga will take centre stage in a presentation and tasting of semi-matured, matured and various other varieties of cheese. The afternoon will continue with musical performances suitable for the whole family.
Sunday
The third and final day will run from 11:00 to 20:00. At 12:00, there will be a children’s cookie-making workshop for the little ones. At 13:30, the culinary programme will focus on the province’s cured meats, with a tasting and presentation of the variety of local meat products. Music will take centre stage during the afternoon until the end of the fair.
Theatre Festival
On Friday 25th, nonagenarian actress María Galiana will take to the stage at the auditorium, accompanied by actresses Nieve de Medina, Anna Mayo and María Roja, as part of the cast of ‘Yo solo quiero irme a Francia’ (I Just Want to Go to France), a bitter comedy.
‘Survival’ is the show scheduled for Saturday 26th. An apocalyptic comedy in which a young man obsessed with survival is confronted by a series of news reports and signs that seem to herald the end of the world.
The final day of the festival, Sunday 27th, is reserved for a company that is already a veteran of the Mijas stage. Yllana returns to Mijas to showcase the physical comedy that has brought them so much international success, this time with ‘The Opera Locos’, the show that won the Max Award for Best Musical in 2019. All performances will begin at 21:00 and admission is free until full capacity is reached.
Talk and workshop
Mijas Town Hall and the Mijitas association, to mark the International Day Against Sexual Exploitation and Trafficking of Women, Girls and Boys, are organising a talk and workshop on the trafficking of women for sexual exploitation. The event will also feature the launch of a trilogy of books on this subject by the writer María González Pineda. It will take place on 25th September at 19:00 at the Casa de la Cultura in Las Lagunas.
Charity tables
The charity stalls are back, this time in their autumn edition. Various associations, groups and NGOs will be offering their products and raising awareness amongst the public at these stalls, which will be located opposite the Mayor’s Office in La Cala, next Saturday the 26th, from 11:00 am 14:00
Organic market
This Sunday, the Guadalhorce Ecológico organic market will be held on Calle Marbella 25, in La Cala, from 09:00 to 13:30. There, you will be able to buy seasonal fruit and vegetables from local producers.
