Mijas Town Hall was honoured on Tuesday 15th at the Greencities Forum, held at the Trade Fair and Congress Centre of Málaga, for its commitment to urban sustainability and efficient management. Gecor Systems, the organisation awarding the distinction, highlighted the “track record, commitment and excellent management” in the implementation of citizen participation solutions in Mijas, “making it one of the most striking success stories”.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), collected the award during the first day of Greencities, at an official event held in Hall 1 of the Congress Centre. The event was also attended by the mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, who received the recognition corresponging to the provincial capital.  

 

Also in attendance were the deputy mayor of Torremolinos, Marta Huete, and the councillor for infrastructure in Fuengirola, José Sánchez, who each received awards for different merits. For her part, the mayoress of Granada, Marifrán Carazo, sent a video message to express her gratitude for the award.

Digital transformation

In the presence of the mayoress, Gecor Systems praised “the Mijas Town Hall’s commitment to innovation, digital transformation and the continuous improvement of municipal services through the use of Gecor”. In this regard, the organisation highlighted the municipality and the mayoress’ “modernisation of local management through smart city-oriented solutions”.

 

For her part, Mata expressed her gratitude for this Award for Innovation and Excellence in Municipal Management and emphasised that having systems “that gather information directly from citizens, unify it and communicate it to the various municipal departments is key to ensuring speed when carrying out all actions”.

 

Furthermore, the mayoress emphasised that when all municipal actors involved in solving problems have access to the same source of information, and nearly in real time, “the citizens are the ones who benefit”. Finally, she expressed her confidence that artificial intelligence will allow processes to be further optimised in the short term to speed up response times.

The Greencities Forum is regarded as the benchmark event for promoting efficient management projects. It connects public authorities, businesses and networks to activate solutions ready to deploy in situations of climate and energy transition, circular economy, urban nature, water, efficient lighting and equipment, interoperability and smart systems.
