The Andalusian Government continues to fast-track the implementation of the Ventilla Plan, a project it regards as strategic for strengthening the capacity of the electricity grid on the western Costa del Sol and meeting the new supply needs arising from economic, industrial and residential growth in the area.

The project, promoted by e-Distribución, Endesa’s network subsidiary, has had planning permission granted by Mijas Town Hall since early September for the construction of the new electrical substation in the Rincón del Hinojal area, following the relevant environmental approval from the Andalusian Regional Government.

The councillor for Energy Efficiency at Mijas Town Hall, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), highlighted the importance of this work and stated that it is “very good news for Mijas and the rest of the Costa del Sol”. In this regard, he explained that the new infrastructure will mean “an improvement both in terms of the potential to increase power capacity in the area and in the efficiency and performance of the electricity grid”.

The Ventilla Plan provides for the construction of this new electrical transformer substation, with an investment of 17.1 million euros from Endesa. The infrastructure will provide a new supply point for the distribution network on the western Costa del Sol, increasing its capacity and improving the quality and security of supply.

 

The councillor also highlighted that connecting the new substation to the existing electricity infrastructure will provide alternatives in the event of any potential incidents. “If there is any kind of fault in the grid, it will also have alternative routes to supply power”, he explained.

Streamlining procedures

The project has been included in the Regional Government’s Project Acceleration Unit (UAP), a mechanism designed to provide specific, coordinated monitoring of initiatives deemed strategic due to their economic and territorial impact. The aim is to streamline the various administrative procedures required so that the infrastructure can be delivered as quickly as possible.

In this regard, the councillor for Energy Efficiency noted that Mijas Town Hall has worked with “absolute priority” to facilitate the granting of planning permission. Torres Trella described the project as “a major piece of critical infrastructure” and pointed out that the planned investment exceeds 17 million euros.

 

The new substation will also feature four 66 kV lines, arranged in two double circuits, approximately six kilometres long with an underground route. These lines will connect Ventilla to the substations at Elviria, Mijas, Cortijo Colorado and Fuengirola, thereby strengthening the grid network in the area.

Now that municipal planning permission has been granted, all that remains is to complete the processing of the Declaration of Public Utility (DUP) for the land where the infrastructure will be installed. In parallel, Endesa is working on planning the works.
