Mijas Town Hall holds a draw for the 1,600 places reserved for the senior citizens’ trip

  • A total of 1,912 applications meeting the requirements for this getaway were received, making it necessary to carry out a selection process
  • Momento del sorteo realizado este viernes en el Ayuntamiento.

This year, the 60 retirees and pensioners who, in 2025, were not included in the allocation for the organised trip to Huelva are guaranteed a place

On Friday, the Plenary Hall of the Mijas Town Hall hosted the public draw for the traditional senior citizens’ trip, which this year will take 1,600 retireesand pensioners to the town of Chipiona, in Cádiz, across four shifts, during the second half of October. Juan José Torres Trella (PP), a councillor on the government team, oversaw the allocation of places, following a prior explanation of the entire procedure.

As the number of eligible applications exceeded the number of places available, 1,912 compared to 1,600, the Senior Citizens’ Department was obliged to hold this public draw to determine who would ultimately be able to enjoy this trip to Cádiz. However, the 60 retirees and pensioners who missed out on last year’s trip to Huelva were not included in this selection process. “These people were excluded last year but will automatically be included in this year’s trip. The same will apply to today's draw: those who were not selected will automatically be included in next year’s trip, as stipulated in the rules for the activity organised by the Senior Citizens’ Department", explained the councillor.

Procedure

The draw was open to the public.  A file number was drawn, from which the final list of places will be compiled in ascending order. The list of successful applicants will be published in the coming days but, as Torres Trella pointed out, it may vary slightly “as there may be some cancellations, either for medical reasons or because the allocated shift does not suit the beneficiary; in such cases, the next on  the waiting list will step in to take part in the trip”.

This trip to Chipiona and other destinations along the Cadiz coast will take place between 12th and 24th October, across four groups of four days and three nights, on an all-inclusive basis for the 1,600 beneficiaries, “this is the same number as last year and the highest offered by the government team”, said Torres Trella, adding that “the contract value for running this trip came to just over 763,000 euros".

In the coming days, the dates for making payments at the senior citizens’ offices, by card or bank transfer, will also be announced. The public price of the trip is 6.50 euros per person per stay.
