The Mijas Town Hall will celebrate Tourist Day on 23rd September with an event open to visitors and local residents in Plaza Virgen de la Peña. The programme will include a flamenco show and free paella.

The event will begin at 12:00 with a flamenco performance, while the paella will start at 13:30. In addition, a shuttle bus service will be provided to make it easier for attendees to reach the venue.

The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), explained that this initiative is being organised to mark World Tourism Day, allowing Mijas to join in an international celebration. “We want tourists, visitors and local residents to come along and share this day with us, an event that has become a tradition on the municipality’s tourism calendar”, he said.

The event coincides with the final stretch of the summer season, a particularly important period for retail and hospitality businesses. “The presence of visitors brings life to our shops, bars and restaurants and has a direct impact on the local economy”, stated the councillor.

Main industry

Jerez pointed out that tourism is Mijas’s main industry and emphasised the need to maintain the destination’s strength beyond the summer.

In this regard, the Tourism Department highlighted that it is working to make further progress in deseasonalisation and to increase visitor numbers during the winter. “The challenge is to continue welcoming visitors in summer, while also increasing their arrival during the winter”, explained Jerez, who highlighted Mijas’s ability to offer attractions 12 months of the year.

  • A partir de las 13:30 tendrá lugar la degustación gratuita de paella. |
