On 22nd August 1926, on Avenida del Compás, Pepita Díaz was born in her parents’ home, the house where she still lives today and where she raised her two children: Isabel María and Fulgencio, from her marriage to Fulgencio Berral, who passed away in 2025. She says she takes getting older in her stride and admits there is “no secret” to reaching this age in such good health. 

On the morning of Wednesday 2nd, all smiles and surrounded by her family, she was surprised by the presence of numerous media outlets and by a visit from the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who did not want to miss the opportunity to congratulate Pepita once again, who remarked that the past year had gone by “very quickly”. “It’s a joy to be able to come and congratulate Pepita because she is a woman of great responsibility and obligations, who continues to live in her own home, in her own surroundings with her family, which has grown, alongside her granddaughters, and who is dearly loved”, said Mata.

 

Although she devoted her whole life to raising her children, she also worked as a supply teacher in La Noria, in Osunillas, where she taught local children. “I taught them a little bit, adding, subtracting, and praying because they were preparing for their First Communion”, said Pepita.

Grandmother to three granddaughters: Adriana, Natalia and Blanca, she said, “I love them all equally. They’re all beautiful”. 

With the fair just around the corner, she said she holds very fond memories of the festivities: “I have lots of good memories; we used to have a wonderful time”. She’s already blown out the candles but “I didn’t remember to make a wish”, she admits with a laugh. Well, our wish for you, Pepita, is that you celebrate many more.
