The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the councillor for Sport, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), presented the new line of Sports Excellence Awards on Thursday 3rd. This is a pioneering measure in the municipality, aimed at recognising the achievements of local athletes who attain success in national or international tournaments, with a budget allocation of 100,000 euros.

“Mijas has great athletes who always fly the flag for our municipality. Many are competing at the highest level, giving their all, so we feel it is very fitting to recognise them. That is why Mijas Town Hall wants to help them maintain their dedication, which requires a great deal of support to bear fruit”, explained the mayoress.

Award amounts

Individual athletes can apply for an award of 2,500 euros if they have taken part in World Championships, Olympic Games or Paralympic Games with the Spanish national team in their respective disciplines. Having competed in European Championships or European Cups with the Spanish national team carries an award of 2,000 euros.

Achieving a podium finish in Spanish Championships or Cups as an individual, in club rankings or representing the Andalusian team will also be recognised with an amount of 1,500 euros. Finally, achieving an individual placement between 4th and 10th position in Spanish Championships or Cups will be awarded 750 euros. In team sports, the criteria are similar.

 

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following requirements:

To have achieved the sporting results for which the financial award is requested between 1st January and 31st December 2025. To be registered as a resident in Mijas at the time of achieving the accolade. Not to have been sanctioned by a final ruling for serious or very serious infractions of sporting discipline.

For athletes under 18 years of age, the application and its annexes must be submitted and signed by their parents or legal guardians.
