The reorganisation of space has made it possible to create 38 more spaces than included in the original project, so there will ultimately be 272 and not 234

The Mijas Town Hall has now completed construction of the Los Santos car park in Las Lagunas, following an investment of 15.7 million euros. The town’s mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), visited the facility, which will have space for 272 vehicles, on Thursday 16th of July, announcing that it will open in September.

The mayoress, who visited the car park alongside the councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), stated that “the facility will improve mobility in an urban area with long-standing parking issues”.

Town Hall sources emphasised that “the reorganisation of space has made it possible to create 38 more spaces than were included in the original project, meaning there will ultimately be 272 spaces rather than the 234 initially estimated, all keeping the dimensions originally planned”, said Mata, who also noted that “there will ultimately be 200 spaces for permit holder, which have already been allocated by public draw among local residents at a price of 50 euros per month”. This draw was held last March among all applicants.

La reorganización de espacios permite obtener 38 plazas más de las previstas por lo que finalmente habrá 272 plazas y no las 234.

The remaining 72 spaces will operate on a short-stay rotation basis, meaning they can be used by any driver upon payment of the corresponding parking ticket.

Furthermore, the mayoress apologised to all residents for the inconvenience caused in the area during this time and highlighted the high complexity of the project.

Torres Trella added that “many complex situations have arisen among residents due to the proximity of the works to their homes. We have faced difficult situations over these three years of construction work”.

Finally, the councillor also stated that “in July and August, tests will be carried out on the ventilation, air circulation, access barriers, lifts and fire safety measures. The next step is the grid connection, for which the Town Hall is currently finalising the contract with the energy supplier, a prerequisite for the official handover of the works”.
