Mijas continues to consolidate its position as one of the Costa del Sol’s leading tourist destinations after closing the month of June with a hotel occupancy rate of 90.49%, according to figures published by the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos). The town ranks as the third destination in the province with the highest occupancy rate, behind only Torremolinos and Benalmádena.
“Exceeding 90% occupancy in June confirms that Mijas remains a highly competitive and attractive destination for those choosing the Costa del Sol”, said the councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), who noted these “are the result of the work carried out by the Department of Tourism, in collaboration with the sector, to promote the town and strengthen an increasingly diverse and high-quality tourism offering”.
Forecast for July
The forecasts for July maintain this positive trend, with an estimated occupancy rate of 87.88%, which once again places Mijas among the municipalities with the best prospects in the province for the start of the high season.
In this regard, Jerez noted that “we are heading into the summer with good expectations, but without letting our guard down, because we must continue working to maintain the quality of the destination and keep improving the experience of those who visit us”.
The municipal head of Tourism also emphasised the impact these figures have on the local economy. “High hotel occupancy translates into increased activity for hotels, restaurants, shops and service providers, generating wealth and employment in our municipality”, he explained.
Finally, Jerez reiterated his commitment to a tourism model based on quality, diversification and deseasonalisation. “Our aim is for Mijas to remain a leading destination all year round, offering a unique experience that builds loyalty among our visitors and continues to attract new tourists”, he concluded.
