As part of this initiative, young people in the municipality will be invited to enjoy a day out at the local water park

The Mijas Town Hall, through its Youth Department, is launching the ‘Mójate y cuídate’ campaign for the second year running. The aim is to promote the use of sun protection and inform young people about the risks associated with vaping. Participants will receive a free ticket to the local water park.

This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC); Aixa Galán, an influencer and pharmacist; and the local water park, AquaMijas. As explained by the councillor for Youth, Melisa Ceballos (PP), the aim is “to raise awareness among the town’s young people of the vital importance of protecting themselves from solar radiation and to inform them of the risks of vaping, thereby preventing serious future health consequences”.

To encourage participation, the programme will invite young people to a day out at the water park on the 3rd and 17th of July. "What we want to do from the Youth Department is to raise awareness among our young people so that they protect themselves, practice safe sun exposure and, above all, be aware of the use of vapes", stated the councillor for Youth Melisa Ceballos. Everything is ready at AquaMijas; Maria del Mar Asesio, managing director of AquaMijas, is once again collaborating on this year’s event: "We are making our facilities available so that young people can come and enjoy them throughout the day with gymkhanas, while at the same time teaching them how to protect themselves and explaining the harmful effects of vaping". The campaign features expert advice from pharmacist Aixa Galán, who aims to raise awareness among young people about cancer: "This is a silent, cumulative process; all the sun damage sustained during childhood has consequences 20 years later, often leading to melanoma".

During the visit, participants will take part in a series of group activities on sun protection and vapes, with the aim of raising awareness and preventing excessive sun exposure and the use of these products.

Ana Marín, a psychological support specialist at the AECC Málaga branch, expressed her concern for young people: "We have a many young people and children with cancer and leukaemia today, so prevention is paramount". The president of the AECC in Mijas, Mari Carmen Gómez, expressed her gratitude: "To the Mijas Town Hall, AquaMijas and Aixa Galán for the tremendous support we feel in raising awareness among so many young people who visit the park, helping them to recognise the dangers of skin cancer and vaping".
