These figures place Mijas among the best-performing tourist destinations on the Costa del Sol and confirm the positive  outlook for the summer season.

The councillor for Tourism in Mijas, Francisco Jerez (Vox), highlighted that “these figures demonstrate Mijas’ strength as a tourist destination  and the enormous appeal our municipality continues to hold for  visitors from both within and outside Spain”.

The councillor explained that “tourism is a source of employment and prosperity for thousands of families in Mijas, so we must continue working to offer a high-quality, safe and well-maintained destination with an increasingly competitive range of attractions”.

Domestic market

Jerez also spoke positively of Mijas’ ability to attract international visitors, though he stressed the importance of not neglecting the domestic market. “We are concerned that many Spanish families are finding it increasingly difficult to enjoy their holidays due to the rising cost of living. Domestic tourism has historically been fundamental  to the Costa del Sol and we must continue to promote measures that allow us to maintain its strength”, he added.

Finally, the councillor noted that the Tourism Department will continue to work on promoting Mijas in strategic markets and on constantly improving the visitor experience  to continue generating wealth, employment and opportunities in the municipality.
