The Mijas Town Hall put into service this Monday the section of the Coastal Path linking La Cala de Mijas with El Sheriff restaurant, which is 700 metres long and covers an area of 21,000 square metres. This opening marks a decisive step forward in the project to connect the entire Mijas coastline via this wooden walkway, a sustainable infrastructure.
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), and the president of the Málaga Provincial Council, Francisco Salado, toured this section on Monday 1st of June, which adds to the one being built between the Calaburras Lighthouse and the boundary with Fuengirola, set to be completed in early July. Both sections have an execution budget of 4.1 million euros, with the Provincial Council contributing 993,000 euros and the Town Hall providing the remaining 3.15 million euros.
This section, like practically the entire route of the Coastal Path, consists of a walkway with a usable width of three metres, supported by Nordic pine piles driven to a depth of at least one meter below sea level. The lintel clasps the pillars supporting the handrail on both sides, which has received an additional copper-red paint treatment, giving it its characteristic uniform appearance along the entire coastline.
Mata, who was accompanied by the councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), and the councillor for Beaches, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP), explained that the Coastal Path is a structure that serves residents, visitors, tourists and sports enthusiasts alike, and benefits beach businesses, “so its importance is beyond doubt”.
Furthermore, she stressed that the Mijas govenrment team's commitment to the Coastal Path, its construction and maintenance “is total, as shown by the fact that we have already completed repairs to the El Capricho section, which was destroyed by the winter storms, thanks to an emergency contract worth 223,000 euros; and the repairs of the Las Mimosas section, also affected by the storms, in which we are investing 304,000 euros, are nearing completion”.

For his part, the president of the Provincial Council, who was accompanied by the Provincial Councillor for the Environment, Cristóbal Ortega, highlighted that the good rapport with Mijas has given the green light to the progress of this project. “This project is now a reality, and it will benefit not only those who visit the Costa del Sol, but also residents looking for a high-quality area for recreation, leisure and environmental recovery”, he stated, adding that “we are already processing the permits to finalise the connection with Fuengirola”.
