A municipal notice signed by the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), reminds owners of private properties and plots of land of their obligation to carry out cleaning, clearing and maintenance work in order to prevent the proliferation of dry vegetation, the accumulation of waste, fire risk, and the spread of pests, thereby contributing to public safety, environmental protection and the municipality’s image.
The Town Hall reminds owners of plots and land located within the municipality of Mijas that they “have a legal duty to maintain them in adequate conditions of safety, public health, public appearance and conservation, in accordance with current town planning and municipal regulations”.

In her notice, Mata reminds owners that failure to comply with these obligations may result in appropriate administrative action, including the issuance of the relevant enforcement order. In the event of non-compliance with such an order, the Town Hall may carry out the work at the owner's expense, as well as, where appropriate, initiating disciplinary proceedings.

Furthermore, such actions must, in all cases, be carried out in accordance with applicable regulations and without prejudice to the submission of any prior notifications, authorisations or licences that may be required.
