The results of the Andalusian elections have given Juanma Moreno’s PP the victory. The Andalusian president has revalidated his electoral victory with a comfortable majority, while the PSOE has suffered its worst-ever result. The Partido Popular has won the election with 41.49% of the vote and a total of 53 seats; the party falls two seats short of an absolute majority. The PSOE remains the second most-voted party with 28 seats, two fewer than in the last regional elections, and Vox remains third with 15 seats, one more than in 2022, becoming a decisive force for the formation of Moreno’s government. Meanwhile, Adelante Andalucía has seen a significant rise, increasing its number of MPs from two to eight, while the Por Andalucía coalition has matched the results it obtained in 2022 (five seats).

Commenting on the results, the president of the Mijas PP and mayoress of the town, Ana Mata, emphasised that “here in Mijas we are very happy; we are the leading political force and that gives us the motivation to carry on, because we are already thinking about the local elections, where we want the majority to be represented by the Partido Popular”. “We are very pleased with the results, even though we were unable to secure an absolute majority; but, ultimately, the Andalusian people have decided, and I believe that here in Mijas we have every reason to be very satisfied”. Regarding possible pacts, Mata said that “in Mijas we are setting an example; we are co-governing with Vox and Por Mi Pueblo, and we said from the very start that we are a team because we have one goal: the well-being of all Mija residents. I am convinced that Juama Moreno will share that vision and that goal, continuing to improve the lives of Andalusians as he has done over the past seven years and three months”.

The secretary-general of the Mijas PSOE, Josele González, congratulated the Partido Popular and Adelante Andalucía on their results and explained: “I believe that in this campaign our candidate failed to connect with the public; we noticed this during the campaign”. He acknowledged that it is the “worst result the PSOE has ever had in the history of Andalusia” but assured that “the Mijas PSOE will turn this situation around and in the local elections, just as we did four years ago, we will win”. He also expressed his concern that “Mr Juanma Moreno, the moderate of Andalusia, will have to form a pact with the far right”.
For his part, the Vox spokesperson in Mijas, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson, thanked “all Mijas residents and Andalusians who have once again placed their trust in Vox and for choosing common sense, national priorities and real change for Andalusia. In Mijas we have overtaken the PSOE and that is a great joy for us. We will not let anyone down; we will continue to fight and defend every vote, every proposal, with the same determination with which we have worked all these years on the streets and within the institutions. Obviously, we must congratulate the PP for being the most-voted-for party, but they will need us to govern, so let’s hope they listen to the message” from the ballot box.

Adelante Andalucía’s number 4 candidate for Málaga, Remedios Leiva from Mijas, said after the results were announced that “we feel optimistic and very pleased with the result we have achieved, because the polls generally predicted fewer seats for us and a lower percentage than we have actually secured”. “We are also very pleased with the results we have achieved in Mijas, where we have tripled our votes; in the previous election we were close to a thousand votes and in this one we have reached three thousand”, added Leiva. For his part, José Miguel López, candidate number 9 for Por Andalucía in the province, in his assessment of the results, stated that “today marks a turning point where it seems the right has peaked and is beginning to decline, while the progressive left is growing. For me, it is very positive that Por Andalucía has managed to retain its parliamentary group in this context”.
