His Majesty King Felipe VI has officially granted the title of ‘Royal’ to the Venerable Hermandad de Nazarenos del Santísimo Cristo de la Paz, María Santísima de la Soledad y San Juan Evangélista. For the brotherhood, this is a “historic” event which it welcomes with “enormous pride and deep emotion”. From this moment onwards, the corporation will be recognised as a Royal Brotherhood, “an honour that represents significant institutional, historical and spiritual recognition”, the organisation stated on its social media.
For the members, “this title represents the bond and protection of the Royal Household towards our brotherhood, honouring our history, our values and the commitment we have maintained over the years to faith, tradition and our social and Christian work”. The brotherhood receives “this distinction with humility, responsibility and gratitude, aware of the importance it holds for all our members, devotees and for the history of our corporation”. For her part, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), stated on her Facebook account that she felt “enormous pride and immense joy” upon hearing the news.
