The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), during the blessing of the May Cross made of white and pink flowers, which took place on Friday 8th at midday in the Patio de las Fuentes in the Town Hall, highlighted the importance of keeping alive one of the municipality’s most deeply-rooted traditions, such as this festival. “From the Mijas Town Hall, we want to continue maintaining our traditions and our culture, and the May Crosses are celebrated by many associations in our municipality, fostering community life and allowing people to enjoy the spirit of togetherness”, said Mata.

The parish priest of Mijas Pueblo, Hermán Marcel Lunar, blessed the cross, supported by a reading from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Philippians. “Our guiding principle must be one of humility and fearlessness, and if you sow kindness and humility along your path, that is what you will reap; and what better testimony for the priest and political leaders than to fulfil that mission in the spirit of this beautiful banner”, remarked the parish priest.

In this regard, the mayoress stated that “whether or not you are a believer, the testimony of Jesus is to be taken into consideration, in conscience, so that we each work on ourselves, and always try to do good”.
The mayoress thanked municipal employees Juan Manuel Peinado and Cristóbal Moreno from the Parks and Gardens Department for their work on this cross and “for the work carried out” throughout the municipality, and Viveros Guzmán “for the donation of those beautiful flowers that we have at the various May crosses in Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas and La Cala”.
