The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), accompanied by the chief superintendent of the National Police in Fuengirola, Juan Cabas, and the secretary general of the Provincial Police Headquarters, Isaac Pacheco, announced on Wednesday 22nd that a mobile unit for issuing ID cards and passports will be stationed in the town on the 7th of May. In this way, Mijas residents will not have to travel outside the municipality to carry out these procedures. “The van operates exactly like a DNI office with two workstations, issuing ID cards and passports, and it also has a separate station where ID certificates can be renewed”, explained Pacheco, who added that “its daily issuance capacity is 50 documents, 25 documents per workstation, which is exactly the same as a DNI office at any police station”.
This mobile office is a ‘Vehículo Integral de Documentación’ (Vidoc), or Integrated Documentation Vehicle, which will be stationed at Cortijo Don Elías thanks to an agreement with the Mijas Town Hall. Here, residents will be able to carry out the necessary procedures to obtain an ID card or passport, whether for first-time issuance or renewal. Those interested must register to use this service at the Citizen Services desk at the Las Lagunas Town Hall Branch.
Following this first day of document issuance on the 7th of May, the vehicle will return to Mijas on dates yet to be decided, as part of a mobile programme developed by the National Police to bring this service closer to the public.

“Thanks to the collaboration with the National Police, this unit will enable many citizens, particularly the elderly, those with reduced mobility or who find it difficult to travel, to carry out this essential procedure without having to leave our municipality”, explained Mata, who expressly thanked the National Police for their willingness, approachability and commitment to this project.
In this regard, Cabas highlighted that “what we achieve with this van is that the citizen, the user, can come and complete the entire process for their identity document, and even take it away with them. With the old system, the data was provided, but you couldn’t take the document away; with this van you can, as it acts as an issuing office, just like the office at the police station”.
“Their work goes far beyond security: they also contribute, as we see today, to improving the quality of life of our residents”, added Mata. The mayoress pointed out that the ID card and passport are not merely identification documents, “but the key that allows us to exercise our rights, carry out administrative procedures and participate fully in social and administrative life. That is why facilitating access to them is also a way of ensuring equal opportunities”.

Price
Payment for the processing of the relevant documentation must always be made in cash, at a cost of 12 euros for the ID card and 30 euros for the passport. Each appointment on the list of applicants corresponds to a single administrative procedure; that is, if a person needs both an ID card and a passport, they will be allocated two appointments. The procedures require the submission of recent photographs of the applicants, with the exception of cases involving duplicates due to theft, loss or damage.
Minors
In the case of minors, for the issue of an ID Card, the presence of one parent is sufficient; however, if a passport is to be requested, both parents must sign the authorisation in person (whether for a first issue or a renewal).
In this case, if due to the time of the appointment one of the parents is unable to attend due to work commitments, they may visit the Vidoc from opening time and sign their corresponding section of the authorisation for the minor.
