Rafael Sánchez and Paqui Corpas performed on Saturday at the Peña Flamenca del Sur in La Cala de Mijas. Antonio Centenera provided the guitar accompaniment at a club preparing for a busy and charitable month of May.
“We have a flamenco evening with two singers from Málaga who are regulars here. The club was founded many years ago, in 1984, and they have been performing here ever since”, said the club’s vice-president, José Martín. He was referring to Rafael Sánchez and Paqui Corpas, both regulars in competitions, concerts, and galas.

Regarding Corpas, one of the enthusiasts said, “To me, she is a very accomplished flamenco singer. Besides being a friend, she is a magnificent performer. A superb guitarist is also performing”. Another member commented: "There is one singer I don’t think the club has hosted before; I come here often but I have not seen La Flor yet, and I’d really like him to come.
Charity event
The next flamenco gala will be in aid of Cudeca, featuring performances by José Vilches ‘El Petro’ and Miguel de Tena. It is scheduled for the 10th of May, with Carlos Haro on guitar. The event will consist of a lunch for around 200 people, and all proceeds will go towards palliative care. Furthermore, on the 19th of May, the club is set to take part in a ‘peña’ exchange.
