The AP-7 motorway on the Costa del Sol has issued a warning regarding an attempted SMS scam (known as ‘smishing’) detected following reports from several affected users. Under this illicit scheme, drivers receive a text message impersonating the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT), sent from an account named 'DGTInfo'.
The SMS contains the text: ‘AP-7 toll unpaid’, accompanied by the make and model of the vehicle, its registration number, and the amount of the allegedly unpaid toll.
The recipient is then pressured to pay within 24 hours under threat of a 200 euro fine, and is provided with a shortened link to access the fraudulent payment platform.
Warning
Ausol, the company managing the two AP-7 motorway concessions between Málaga, Marbella and Guadiaro, warns its customers that this message is entirely fake and that the attached link should never be accessed.
Furthermore, Ausol reminds the public that the Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) has already alerted citizens to this and other other circulating frauds involving impersonation of the agency.
The state body warns that traffic fine notices are never issued via SMS or email; they are only communicated officially by post or through the electronic platform known as the Dirección Electrónica Vial (DEV).
