The exhibition opened on Friday at the Casa Museo and will run until the 11th of May

The artist Elena Dergunova demonstrates her love for Mijas in her latest exhibition, where the local landscape and the beauty of the white village are once again centre stage. The painter remains enamoured with the town, which she describes as a fairy tale.

Seeing Mijas through an artist’s eyes. She captures in her work the intense colours of our town, full of viewpoints, mountain landscapes, sea views and corners of great beauty. This is how Elena sees Mijas.

According to the artist, “the chosen themes are landscapes, streets, nature, and special corners; some works are also more modern due to the use of colour. Almost all of them are of Mijas, because I’ve lived here for 25 years, and I’ve been in love with it since day one. From the moment I arrived, I thought this was paradise, full of colour at any time of year; it’s like a fairy tale".

Elena is of Russian origin but has been a resident for a quarter of a century, and her passion for Mijas remains as strong as ever. Here, she has found her true source of inspiration. According to the artist, “I live by the viewpoint, and every day the landscapes are different, as are the colours in the sky. I love it. For me, this area is my great inspiration, with its light and even the rain”.

Last Friday, her latest exhibition opened at the Casa Museo, featuring watercolours, acrylics, and oil paintings. It is a real feast for the eyes, brimming with sensitivity, light, and a very distinctive palette.

Support for artists

The councillor for Culture, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), who accompanied the artist at the opening, said. “We are delighted to be able to enjoy this work by Elena, who has been with us for practically over 20 years now, although she is of Russian origin. She primarily presents landscapes using various techniques. Events like this become another cultural and tourist attraction. I want to encourage everyone to come here in the afternoons and enjoy this wonderful exhibition. We are also liaising with hotels and other venues so that they can make themselves known, because it is fundamental that we provide them with opportunities.”.

Education

Elena has taken part in numerous competitions and has received several awards; she also possesses extensive training: “From a young age, my teachers told me I had talent. That’s why my mother took me to the art conservatoire. I studied the foundation course for four years, and then the specialist course for five years, as a professional. I also attended art college and hold a teaching qualification in painting and art. Today, I prefer to teach adults or young people, but I also really enjoy working on my own”. The exhibition will remain open until the 11th of May at the Casa Museo.
