Soroptimist invites the public to visit the exhibition ‘The Fury Within Me. Desolation'

  • Photographer Vicenta Casañ opens this exhibition on April 11th in Alhaurín de la Torre, a showcase that reflects the destruction caused by the DANA
  • Las fotografías de Casañ también estarán disponibles para su compra.

The NGO supported businesses in Málaga and Valencia affected by the torrential rains through its ‘Soroptimist By Your Side’ programme

From the bonds forged during the aid provided by Soroptimist International to a group of women in October 2024 whose businesses suffered the effects of the DANA, the photographic exhibition ‘The Fury Within Me. Desolation’ by photographer Vicenta Casañ has now emerged; it will be hosted by the Pincel y Barro association in Alhaurín de la Torre. The opening is scheduled for Saturday 11th of April at 19:00 hours on Calle Luis María Valtueña. Through her photos, Casañ invites a reflection on what it means to lose everything.

The photographs will be available for purchase, with 10% of the proceeds going to support the projects of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol. The association continues to support professional women in need and is working to relaunch ‘Soroptimist by your side’, a project designed to support female entrepreneurs who have seen their livelyhood affected. These women have rebuilt their businesses and moved forward with their lives, stronger in many ways, though not without challenges along the way.

Through the ‘Soroptimist by your side’ project, the NGO managed to raise funds, raise awareness, and provide financial and legal support. It also dedicated its time to listening, accompanying and rebuilding. Members visited the Valencia area twice, forging genuine bonds that have continued beyond the project itself. Before opening her yoga studio, Vicenta worked as a photographer. When she returned after the floods, she began to document what she found: materials drenched in mud, damaged equipment and personal belongings turned to rubble. Rather than focusing on the large-scale destruction, her images capture the quieter, more personal side of loss.

  • Antes de abrir su estudio de yoga, Vicenta trabajaba como fotógrafa.

Social work

It is expected that the exhibition will have the opportunity to be presented in other Andalusian municipalities in the future. For its part, Soroptimist International Costa del Sol will continue to support women. They are present worldwide, with over 63,000 members in 104 countries, all professional women who want to help others.
