The Mijas Town Hall has opened the tender process for the comprehensive refurbishment of the La Cala football pitch, following its publication on the State Procurement Portal. The project has a tender budget of 10,322,218.22 euros, which will begin with the replacement of the facility's turf as the first and most urgent task. Interested companies have until the 29th of April to submit their bids.

In addition to the extension and refurbishment of the pitch and the replacement of the turf, the contract covers the construction of a new building with covered stands, a café and changing rooms. It also includes improvements to the external landscaping and parking area, alongside repairs to the adjacent external road. The total execution period for the works is 14 months from the start date.

Regarding the turf replacement, which has a specific allocation of 1,180,694 euros within the overall budget, a state-of-the-art system will be installed. This will provide superior performance and quality, featuring high resistance to abrasion and UV rays, optimal resilience, and enhanced control over the ball’s bounce and roll.

Regulatory specifications

As for sports equipment, the project includes the replacement of 11-a-side and 7-a-side football goals, the latter fitted with wheels to prevent turf abrasion when moved, as well as new dugouts for substitutes and officials, and corner flags. The renovation of the drainage systems is also included. The final pitch must meet the regulatory dimensions required by current standards for an RFEF First Division (Spanish Third Tier) pitch.

The second phase of the project, involves the demolition of the current building, which houses the changing rooms, storage area and plant room, to make a more functional design to accommodate covered stands, entrances with ticket offices, reception and administration, a meeting room, changing rooms with showers and lockers, a storage area, accessible public toilets, a café and a terrace.

It will also include a multi-purpose space for complementary sports activities, such as a training and weight room. This section of the project has a specific budget of 5.2 million euros.

Parking

Regarding the reorganisation of the external space and the expansion of the car park, the works have a budget of 523,624 euros. In this case, the successful bidder will operate on an area of over 4,500 square metres to improve and streamline access.

Interested companies must provide a descriptive report containing a detailed analysis of the project monitoring, as well as a technical quality and sustainability report, detailing the methodology and planned work schedule.

Energy efficiency

Before signing the site layout certificate ('acta de replanteo') and commencing work, the contractor must submit an action plan for implementing environmental measures. These must be maintained throughout the project to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, incorporate energy-saving measures, use renewable energy sources, or promote material recycling.

The contractor is obliged to guarantee that all other facilities in the complex remain available for use during the first phase (turf replacement). Furthermore, the provisional use of the facilities must not interrupt the works planned for the second and third phases, which must be fully compatible with the use of the playing field.

The new building will feature covered stands on the upper floor, with a capacity for approximately 960 seated spectators and 11 spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility. These are designed to ensure excellent visibility of the pitch while protecting spectators from the elements.
