The Mijas Town Hall has made a plot of land adjacent to the current La Cala Health Centre available to the Junta de Andalucía for the expansion of the facilities. The proposal, as stated by the Town Hall in a press release, is justified by the demographic growth of the municipality, especially in La Cala, which is generating an increasing demand for healthcare.
This offer was made by the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), in a letter sent to the regional minister of Health, Antonio Sanz. "This represents the government team's commitment to the constant improvement of the municipality's healthcare infrastructure", she stated.
Specifically, the site is a municipally-owned plot adjacent to the health centre, with an area of 2,394.50 square metres. It is considered ideal "due to its location, accessibility and urban characteristics" for expansion or the development of new complementary facilities, such as a 24-hour emergency service. "In order for it to be an emergency centre, it must comply with the requirements established by the Andalusian Regional Government and the Andalusian Health Service. In this regard, it must involve the expansion of the soci0-healthcare centre that currently exists in La Cala", explained the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).

This initiative, the mayoress continued, is part of the Town Hall's commitment to improving the municipality's health infrastructure. According to the government team, a key example of this commitment is the launch of the high-resolution process centre (CARP) to be located in Las Lagunas, which was presented during a visit to Mijas by Sanz in January, together with the mayoress and deputy mayors Juan Carlos Cuevas (Vox) and Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP). "We have already started the process for the high-resolution centre in Mijas, for which eight companies have submitted bids. This means that it is now a reality, Mijas will have this healthcare infrastructure to provide residents with the specialist care they need without having to travel to another municipality", said Mata.
The local executive also points out that the design of this centre was recently put out to tender, receiving eight bids from interested companies. "The Town Hall is making a significant technical, administrative and budgetary effort to facilitate the implementation of strategic healthcare infrastructure in order to meet the demands of our residents", concluded the mayoress.
