The Livestock Department at the Mijas Town Hall and the Peña Caballista de Mijas are organising an equestrian excursion from El Esparragal park on Andalusia Day, 28th of February. "It should be noted that there are more than 2,300 horses registered in our municipality, so it is a tradition that is making a comeback, thanks in part to the efforts of the club's board and members", said the councillor for Livestock, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), on Friday 20th.
Riders are invited to meet at El Esparragal Park at 11:00 hours. From there, the group will ride along the path parallel to the Gomenaro River until they reach the Rengo and Gran Parque area, where they will make a brief stop. "I think we'll have a very good day. We hope the weather will be kind, because it will be wonderful to ride along the river, as it is currently flowing, and see the countryside looking so green", added the councillor.

The route will continue along the Alberquilla path before returning to El Esparragal Park, where participants will be able to have lunch at affordable prices, while also enjoying live music and dancing. "The afternoon’s entertainment will be provided by the Expresión academy, which is collaborating with us free of charge, and also by Fátima Burgos, who will be performing", explained Juan López-Ayala, spokesperson for the Peña Caballista de Mijas.
No prior registration is required to participate in this excursion, "so we encourage all residents to come and enjoy this day with us, whether or not they own a horse", said Belmonte. Riders are asked "to attend in traditional country attire", said López-Ayala, as "it will be a very enjoyable day, open to all enthusiasts of the equestrian world".
