  • The project also features a new cafeteria and changing rooms, as well as improvements to the exterior landscaping and car park
  • La alcaldesa Ana Mata destacó este lunes que La Cala contará con un espacio totalmente reformado y moderno.

The Local Government Board has authorised the project, designed by the company Sisener Cadisa, and will put the work out to tender this month

At its meeting on Monday 16th, the Local Government Board of the Mijas Town Hall approved the renovation of the La Cala football pitch, which includes major works to completely refurbish the complex. The replacement of the turf, the construction of a new building with covered stands, a cafeteria and changing rooms, alongside improvements to the outdoor facilities and car park, are included in a budget of 10,322,218.22 euros.

Following the meeting, the mayoress of the city, Ana Mata (PP), provided details of a project that represents one of the government team's key sporting initiatives. The project, drafted by the company Sisener Cadisa, involves an investment of 1,180,694 euros to completely replace the surface with state-of-the-art turf, and a further 5.2 million euros for the new grandstand and cafeteria building.

  • La regidora mijeña expuso los detalles de este proyecto, que saldrá en breve a licitación.

"This is a fundamental project for La Cala and the entire municipality in general, as we will provide Mijas with a completely renovated and modern space that will facilitate sports, comfort and safety for users and visitors", said Mata. The Town Hall notes that the last renovation of this space was carried out more than ten years ago.

Turf

Regarding the replacement of the turf, a state-of-the-art surface will be installed to provide greater performance and quality, with high resistance to abrasion and UV rays, optimal recovery capacity and and improved ball bounce and roll. All of this, the Town Hall explains, will impact not only the players' performance but also the overall image of the ground.

  • La primera fase contempla la sustitución integral del césped por otro de última generación.

In terms of sports equipment, the replacement of the 11-a-side and 7-a-side football goals is planned, the latter featuring wheels to prevent turf abrasion when moved, as well as new substitute and referee benches and corner flags. The renovation of the drainage system is also included.

Actions

The second phase of the project involves the demolition of the current building, which houses the changing rooms, storage and plant room. It will be replaced by a more functional facility housing covered stands, ticket offices, reception and administration areas, a meeting room, changing rooms with showers and lockers, a storage room, accessible public toilets, a cafeteria, and a terrace. It will also include a multi-purpose space for complementary activities, such as a training and weight room.

Mata, who was accompanied by the councillor for Works and Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), and the councillor for Sport, Mari Francis Alarcón (PP), added that the works also include the reorganisation of the exterior space and the expansion of the car park, with a budget of 523,624 euros. In this case, the successful bidder will work on an area of more than 4,500 square metres to improve access.

Other infrastructure

The mayoress also pointed out that the Mijas Town Hall is carrying out major projects to restore, remodel and complete important sports infrastructure throughout the municipality. She reported that the works to complete the Regino Hernández Sports Centre in Las Lagunas are about to be awarded to a construction company, with work expected to begin shortly.

This project includes a multi-purpose building (for sports and administrative use), a therapeutic swimming pool in a separate but adjoining building, a children's playground and the necessary access points, as well as facilities, changing rooms and a central square, all with a budget of 5.1 million euros.

  • También se creará otro nuevo espacio que albergará graderío cubierto, accesos con taquillas, recepción y administración, entre otros.

Football pitches

Furthermore, tenders have recently been invited for the refurbishment of the Antonio Márquez de Osunillas football pitch (84,416 euros) and the Las Lagunas annex pitch (55,000 euros).

In the case of the Las Lagunas annex pitch, the porject includes both the replacement of the turf and the extension of the adjoining facilities. The work will be carried out on the existing pitch, which has an artificial turf playing surface more than ten years old. It features goalposts for 11-a-side football and two sets of goalposts for 7-a-side football, as well as corner flags, benches and stands.

The Antonio Márquez football pitch will undergo a complete refurbishment of the facility, car park and access road. Similar to Las Lagunas, the football pitch has artificial turf more than ten years old and goalposts for both 11-a-side and 7-a-side football.

"Mijas is sport and Mijas is moving forward, as demonstrated by these projects which are already underway. They will enter the construction phase very soon so that the residents of Mijas can enjoy sports facilities in keeping with the importance of the municipality and the needs of our many athletes", concluded the mayoress.
