The passage of the last two storms through Mijas has resulted in some eighty interventions by the Fire Brigade, Operational Services and Parks and Gardens. This was announced on Monday 9th by the Mijas Town Hall, which has reopened the parks after the storms. The Municipal Emergency Plan has therefore been lifted.

On Tuesday 3rd, the Town Hall announced that it was closing the parks, sports facilities and the UP as a preventive measure in anticipation of heavy rain and strong winds. These have now been reopened, as no serious damage to the facilities has been detected.

As for the incidents, most of them relate to damage to trees, which has occurred in the village, Las Lagunas, La Cala and in residential areas. Both the Fire Brigade and Parks and Gardens have been working hard to remove the damaged trees to ensure that vehicles and people can pass through.

Several items of signage have also been found to have fallen down in Miramar Park and Las Lagunas, as well as some fences in Entrerríos, a bus shelter in Las Lagunas, and metal sheets, also in Las Lagunas.

Coordinated work

"It has been a rather complicated few days, with all kinds of alerts to which we have responded quickly and in a coordinated manner. Most of the incidents have been related to damaged trees, which has happened throughout the municipality. Fortunately, there have been no reports of personal injury and everything is returning to normal", explained the councillor for Parks and Gardens, Daniel Gómez Teruel (PP).

"The Mijas Town Hall's emergency services have worked in a coordinated manner from the outset to deal with all the incidents caused by the storms, acting quickly wherever it was a priority to ensure the safety of residents and property. These have been difficult days, with interventions spread throughout the municipality, but prior planning and collaboration between the Fire Brigade, Civil Protection and Local Police have enabled an effective response and a return to normality in a very short time", concluded Francisco Jerez (Vox), councillor for the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection.
