Town Hall and Junta organise a workshop on forest fire prevention

  • The event will explore the causes of these disasters and the design of self-protection plans
  • El taller tiene por nombre ‘Defender nuestro pueblo: planes comunitarios contra incendios forestales’.

It will take place at the La Cala Branch Office on the 11th of February, from 16 to 19 hours, and registration is now open

Over the years, Mijas has suffered numerous forest fires that have marked its history. The municipality’s vast woodland area is susceptible to these disasters, making it vital to know how to act to prevent them. This will be addressed in an environmental awareness workshop to be held on the 11th of February at the La Cala Branch Office from 16 to 19 hours.

The workshop, co-organised by the Mijas Town Hall and the Regional Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of the Junta de Andalucía, is entitled ‘Defender nuestro pueblo: planes comunitarios contra incendios forestales’ (Defending our town: community plans against forest fires). Its aim is to raise awareness of the importance of neighbourhood and community organisation in fire prevention, developing self-protection plans and identifying and prioritising collective measures adapted to the current situation.

Programme

To this end, the programme has been divided into several sections. The first will delve into forest fires in Andalusia, their most frequent causes and local risk factors. The second will focus on community schemes and the design of self-protection plans, while the third will look at specific prevention measures.

In this regard, the councillor for the Environment, Marco Cortés (PP), explained in a statement that the talk is aimed especially at residents of urban-forest interface areas, as well as owners of homes, plots of land and rural properties, neighbourhood associations "and the general public interested in prevention and environmental safety".

"The recent rainfall will lead to an increase in vegetation in mountain and rural areas this spring, which is why activities aimed at raising awareness and preventing forest fires are more necessary than ever," added Cortés.

To register for this conference, co-financed with EU funds, please call or message 613 022 572, or visit this website.
